Come and discover sporty rafting in Bidarray with the Basque Country Rafting School, led by experienced instructors passionate about the thrills of rafting. Crossing the superb gorges of the Nive de Bidarray (a river that rises above Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port and Saint-Étienne-de-Baigorry), this wild river will take you to the picturesque village of Bidarray in the Pyrenees department.
You will navigate in a natural and wild environment where the Basque identity is still very present. This natural space is guarded by herds of ewes, cows and Pottok (a breed of very old stocky Basque small horses, living in semi-freedom in the middle of the mountains).
The Nive has two main sources: one above Saint Jean Pied de Port and the other above Saint Etienne de Baigorri.
It goes through Ossés and joins Bidarray in department 64 (high place of rafting64 in Aquitaine in the western Pyrenees).
In Bidarray, the 14th century hell bridge and its 12th century church are sites classified as national heritage.
The Nive crosses Itxassou (next to Espelette known for its excellent pepper), then Cambo les Bains, Ustaritz to reach Bayonne.
The Nive is not the Nivelle which passes through Saint Pée sur Nivelle.
This place is a canoe route that passes through Ascain and joins Saint Jean de Luz where you can practice wave-rafting in Socoa-Ciboure (giant stand up). Saint Jean de Luz is also known for its fishing port.
